Opening Narration:
The start of the Ōnin War can be traced to a conflict over who would become shōgun in the latter part of the Muromachi period.
Soldiers were recruited from throughout the land. The battles continued for years, and Kyōtō was burned to the ground.
Seeking to increase their power during the chaos, the ruling families raised armies, and waged war throughout the country.
This was the arrival of a turbulent era of civil war.
In the Kantō area, the governing Uesugi clan became embroiled in battle with the Ashikaga shogunate that they nominally served.
Taking this opportunity to seize Odawara Castle and make his name known, was Sōun Hōjō, the first head of the Hōjō clan.
Sōun was an excellent ruler of the domain, and with the dogged cooperation of his subjects, he developed a power base.
However, upon Sōun's death, the Ashikaga and Uesugi armies joined forces and took the offensive.
The Coalition Army surrounded Kawagoe Castle, which had been taken by the Hōjō family.
Sōun's grandson, Ujiyasu, the third head of the Hōjō family, left Odawara Castle and came to the aid of Kawagoe Castle...

Pre-battle event: Before Dawn (Ujiyasu)

Ujiyasu Hōjō, the fool of Sagami. Ujiyasu had succeeded his father as head of the Hōjō clan.
Sensing an opportunity, Yoshimoto Imagawa invaded from the West as the Uesugi Clan invaded from the East.
The Uesugi, with an army of 80,000 culled from across Kantō, laid siege to Kawagoe Castle for six months.
Ujiyasu and his army of 8,000 fought tirelessly against the Uesugi Coalition.
Ujiyasu wanted peace with the Uesugi Coalition as a condition for the surrender of Kawagoe Castle, but was refused.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: Those imbeciles had their way home open before them, and they threw it away.
Sensing the vulnerability of the Hōjō, the coalition attacked. Drunk on overconfidence, they assumed victory would be a formality.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: None of them have any idea what I have in store for them, the fools.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: A six month siege with 80,000 troops, and still victory eludes them. They should have left when they had the chance.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: But the numbers don't matter. They can't count that high anyway.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: What hardships they must have caused their people to call up a force of 80,000 troops.
Ujiyasu Hōjō: I will not surrender Kantō to such fools.
